I love Buffalo Wild Wings boneless wings but I can’t usually afford to go unless it’s Thursday, and even then I can’t usually afford to go. I crave that Honey BBQ sauce so much that I have developed a recipe that I believe is pretty darn close! Other sauces will be following shortly so make sure to check back!

Here’s what you need to make the boneless wings:

About 1 lb Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (I usually get tenderloins and then cut each piece into 3 sections)

1 cup Flour

1.5 teaspoon Salt

3/4 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

1/2 teaspoon Paprika

1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder

1 cup milk

1 egg

Vegetable Oil (enough to fill a pot just deep enough to put wings in)

Instructions to make the boneless wings:

1) Cut chicken breasts into small chunks. Try your best to get them about the same size.

2) Whisk together 1 cup milk and 1 egg in a bowl.

3) Pour at least 1 cup of flour in a medium bowl. Spice with salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and paprika. Stir together.

4) Dip the chicken chunks into the milk/egg and then toss into the flour bowl. Repeat this again so the wings get double covered. Put the wings on a baking sheet covered with wax paper.

5) Refrigerate for about 30 minutes. In the last 5 minutes, heat the vegetable oil in a pot. You want the oil to reach 375 degrees. I usually heat it on medium until I see ripples and then I know it’s hot. I then turn the heat down a little. Be careful! You do not want the oil to crackle and pop because then it shoots all over the place when you put the chicken in! (Learned the hard way the first time)

6) Put the chicken in the oil. These will not take long to cook, about 5 minutes in small batches, so stay close. Once the wings are floating the chicken should be cooked through. I keep them in the oil until the breading is a nice golden brown.

7) Set boneless wings on paper towels to cool. I toss them in a bowl and pour the sauce in and shake them around.

Honey BBQ Sauce:

I would make this in advance or when the chicken is resting in the fridge.

Ingredients:

1 cup ketchup

1/3 cup White Vinegar

1/4 cup Molasses

1/4 cup Honey

1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

Instructions:

1) Combine ketchup, vinegar, molasses, and honey in saucepan. Set stove on medium heat while combining ingredients.

2) Season with liquid smoke, salt, pepper, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Don’t worry if you don’t have all of the seasonings. You should at least have the salt and pepper though!

3) Stir well and reduce the heat to low. Leave uncovered to simmer for about 20 minutes.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do! Check back for some of their other great sauces! If you change anything and find that it makes a better version, please leave your changes in the comment section!

The chicken itself comes out great using that breading! The sauce needs a little work though. The consistency isn’t quite right (too thick) and it came out… strong. Can’t quite pin it, I’ll mess around with it but I think it’s either too much liquid smoke or molasses. Good start though!

When I first made this recipe, I thought the molasses was a bit much also. This was a personal taste. I have a bbq sauce recipe that I love that has quite a bit of molasses and that’s probably why I went heavy in this one. If you make this with less, please come back and report your results!

I tried this recipe last night. I agree completely with the previous post. The breading was GREAT, but the sauce was a little strong. Next time I make it, I think I’ll try a little less vinegar. Maybe go from 1/3 cup to 1/4 cup. That is what came out the strongest to me.

I never comment on these things, but I just made the sauce and I’m super happy with it! The vinegar tang might be a smidge much, but it reminds me of eating wings, so I’m fine with it. I can’t wait to give it to my honey bbq-loving boyfriend for Valentine’s day! Thank you SO much!!

Loved the Wings and BBQ Sauce.

  5. Shannon says:

This was really good BBQ sauce but I think it needs more spice and more honey flavor

  6. Lia says:

My son loves this wing recipe. I just reduced the vinegar to 1/4 and increased the honey by 1/4. He said it is now very close to the restaurant.

how any servings does this recipe make?

    • burkej09 says:

This recipe makes a little more than a cup. When I make this sauce when I’m not making wings, I put it in a mason jar, and it usually fills up a mason jar with some left over. I’m not positive, but I believe that equals out to 1-2 servings. Does anybody else know the answer to that question?

Does this recipe work for the regular wings (with bones)?? And could you just put all the sauce ingredients in a crockpot with the wings (with bones) – minus the flour breading – and let it cook that way?

    • burkej09 says:

This recipe definitely works with regular wings! However, I am not sure about using this recipe with a crock pot. I would suggest frying the wings naked and then setting them in the crock pot with the sauce to keep them warm.

  10. Jessie grogan says:

I wonder if you can use regular vinegar and just white vinegar, I trying to make this for my family and my class. And does any body know if you can make his without the egg? Please esply

  11. Jessie grogan says:

And how many does this serve and how much do each person get because I don’t want to make too little and if you want to give suggestions On what May goes with this.

For those of you who don’t really like this sauce, you can buy the Buffalo Wild Wings honey barbeque sauce at the restaurant.

A great hit with our family. My boys loved them and they are picky eaters. I just lowered the vinegar to 1/4 like suggested and added a little more honey. It turned out great. Just the right amount of kick
